Has the Patriot Act gone too far?
This evening D and I were watching planes doing touch and go routines at the former Griffiss air base, now known as Oneida county airport.
After arriving we joked about how suspicious we probably looked with our bags and tripods and things that "beep" (our cameras). After about an hour a security guard confronted us, asking what we were doing and why. Soon after, two City of Rome police officers showed up to see what we were doing. One could not seem to understand why we thought it was acceptable to take pictures of planes at night on September 11th. The confrontation ended after many silly questions and some better answers but the result is we both have a couple pictures to show you.
Here are mine and D will have his own up very soon.

Back in 2001 I was supposed to be working in NYC on a project in lower Manhattan...
..
That job was put on hold because of a terrible, terrible thing.
I had 3 friends that worked in the World Trade Centers often, but the two that were there on that day made it out in time. Sadly so many others didn't, R.I.P.
The project was pushed to early in 2002. The devastation was still in the air and everyone was understandably still on edge. My work was actually within 3 blocks of the World Trade Centers and walking around the area was very dream like. I still could not believe it.
I had been to NYC enough times in my life to be very attached to the skyline, which will never be the same again. One of my strongest memories of being with my parents (who have since passed on) in NYC was standing at the base of the World Trade Centers, holding their hands so I could stay balanced as I looked up to see the top of them... *heavy sigh*
Here are four images of my take on things while down there:
