Last Friday

We, as a group, are known to be out shooting at any time of the day, night or week. We all have our own schedules that do not always line up with each other. Taking advantage of every opportunity to go out and shoot is the key. Often while we are out shooting we encounter odd or unusual situations that we seem to get caught in the middle of.

Last Friday D, J, and I were planning on shooting in Columbia square in Utica, It was a very brisk windy night. As we were getting out of the car while bundling up to keep warm, we saw lights and heard sirens coming down the street towards us. This situation developed into a small police chase where, the suspects drove around the block we were standing on twice. The three of us stood there stunned in amazement, questioning each other about what was going on. The suspects fled the car and tried to seek refuge in a house just around the corner from where were now standing. We walked up the street to the corner to see what was going on. D and I captured several photos of the situation that was escalating in front of our eyes.

That night D contacted the Utica OD informing them that we had these photographs of this incident and we thought that they maybe interested in taking a look at them. Although they did not get back to us in time for the article to be published, they told us that they are interested in looking at more of our photos to see if we can work together in the future.

We often talk about those famous photographs that it seems every one know about, such as the Korean man being shot in the head or the woman who had been napalmed and is on fire. These photographs can be extremely upsetting and sad, yet at the same time very strong and moving. It can be easy to just snap a picture capturing a photograph. On the other hand it is a miracle that some one was present at these times to capture these very important photographs, along with how often situations maybe lost in time because some one could not capture an image. We are always keeping a heads up to what is going on around us because you truly never know what may unfold right in front of you. Who knows maybe one of us will someday capture a photograph that is that moving and strong it will be remembered all over the world. One can only hope.
