From 2006:
I woke up one morning thinking about the beautiful abandoned buildings around us and wrote this:
____________
Everyone knows that feeling each time you walk past an abandoned building. The intrigue, allure, and charm calling out to you. I feel the building's soul begging us, "please don't forget me"...
Buildings that some of our Mothers, Fathers, Grand Parents, Aunts, Uncles (etc..)worked at, to build a future for us are those same buildings that are being torn down throughout America. This permanently removes any chance of a 3 dimensional memory.
Schools, Hospitals, Factories, Retail Stores, Power Plants and so many more. What was once the infrastructure of America, may now be completely uncared for. When one of these buildings finally falls into itself, is it dying of old age or is it suicide? When they are demolished, it sure seems more like a murder took place.
Our beautiful historical American architecture is time and time again being replaced with "new" lackluster buildings that are missing the most important ingredient of all. A beautifully stunning presence. - D the Shadowman
____________
No matter the condition or age of a location it still needs to be
preserved, no different than the pictures you take of your own family..
One of our goals is to preserve these historic places the best way we know
how, by creating 2 dimensional memories.. in our photographs.
Utica State Hospital's "Old Main" building is losing it's wings more and more as the days pass. The demolishion crew is working quickly, too quickly. What was once destined to be forever great, will now feel and look so very naked.
This has been a sad beginning to spring..
