I woke up one morning thinking about the beautiful abandoned buildings around us and wrote this:
____________

Everyone knows that feeling each time you walk past an abandoned building. The intrigue, allure, and charm calling out to you. I feel the building's soul begging us, "please don't forget me"...

Buildings that some of our Mothers, Fathers, Grand Parents, Aunts, Uncles (etc..)worked at, to build a future for us are those same buildings that are being torn down throughout America. This permanently removes any chance of a 3 dimensional memory.

Schools, Hospitals, Factories, Retail Stores, Power Plants and so many more. What was once the infrastructure of America, may now be completely uncared for. When one of these buildings finally falls into itself, is it dying of old age or is it suicide? When they are demolished, it sure seems more like a murder took place.

Our beautiful historical American architecture is time and time again being replaced with "new" lackluster buildings that are missing the most important ingredient of all. A beautifully stunning presence.

____________

No matter the condition or age of a location it still needs to be
preserved, no different than the pictures you take of your own family..

One of our goals is to preserve these historic places the best way we know
how, by creating 2 dimensional memories.. in our photographs.

Utica State Hospital's "Old Main" building is losing it's wings more and more as the days pass. The demolishion crew is working quickly, too quickly. What was once destined to be forever great, will now feel and look so very naked.

This has been a sad beginning to spring..

Utica Police Officer Shot and Killed - 4-12-07 - Utica N.Y.

A few of us were out again this evening. On the way to take pictures I was notified by my cousin of a shooting. I was unsure of what exactly happened, but once I came home to work on these images, I read of the bad news. Sadly a Utica officer was shot and killed.

"Utica police Officer Thomas Lindsey was shot and killed during a traffic stop on the 1100 block of Neilson Street in Cornhill Thursday night, Police Chief C. Allen Pylman said early this morning" Utica O.D.

We will end this post with a few images:

More on the Utica fire at 1408 Whitesboro Street

L, B and I happened to be out shooting yesterday when a friend of ours notified us of a fire not too far away. It was easy to see the smoke from our location in North Utica, so we ventured over to see what was happening.

During the firefighters struggle to get control of the fire, two firemen fell from a roof, onto a lower roof, requiring a rescue operation. Also, a neighboring home owner was removed from their home. All of this was no easier with the cold and windy weather.

"Two Utica firefighters (Lt. Anthony Sbiroli and Firefighter Jeffrey DeSarro)who fell 12 feet from an icy roof while fighting a Whitesboro Street fire Saturday have been released from the hospital, Fire Chief Russell Brooks said Sunday." - Utica O.D.

A little mix of what I have uploaded to my photo gallery recently

Many of us (shadowmen) take all kinda of pictures as illustrated by the first post on theshadowman.com.

Lately we have been busy trying to stay ahead of the demolition work scheduled for this year. On the other end of the photography spectrum, I spent a few hours last weekend taking some pictures of an ice skating event that my girlfriend's niece was in.

We consider and treat our work like professionals and as long as it means something to someone, we have all the gratification needed to keep us happy.

From historically important buildings, to family. From cars to national news. We cover life in and around Utica.

A few uploaded over the last month.

West End Brewery (F.X. Matt's, Utica Club, Etc..)

A few from Today:

I really wish this still lit up. The darkness of this at night is just so depressing. As I kid, I remember this being lit up all of the time. I wish I was into photography back then. To me, the lights will always be greatly missed.

At least during the day, it can be quite colorful:)
