Back from 24 hours in NYC!

The trip to NYC was mainly to check out a car A was interested in. The car was located on Long Island and was not quite as nice as the owner explained to us. So, after not coming to an agreement on price, we switched gears and became photographers again. We did some of the tourist things since L has never been there only to get a call from the owner of the car saying his wife yelled at him for not taking our offer. Oh well, his loss.

I also wanted to see some of the typical tourist attractions because of my passion for photography and my new photography gear since my last trip to New York City. I have been wanting to get to the top of the Empire State Building for memories sake. The last time I went to the top of the ESB was when I was a child with my parents. Since both of my parents have passed away, I have tried to embellish on the times I can remember, attempting to strike up more memories.... It worked (it usually does).

Here are a couple pictures of MANY. The first being the beautiful and lively New York City skyline as seen through my eyes:

Flatiron, a favorite of mine:

More, very soon....

24 hours later

We just made it home. It was a long day but there were many memories made and all and all an unforgettable day. The photos will be up once we catch up on some sleep and a few side projects that have been started. Hopefully in the next few days, make sure you check back to see the photos from our trip.

Early trip

It is 3:41 AM right now, about the time I'm usually going to bed. Today D, B, J, A and myself are talking a trip to New York City for the day to do some shooting and site seeing, amongst some other things. I have never been to the city before and I am looking forward to the rest of the day.

It sure has been cold!

Last night D and I took advantage of some free time we had. Usually when D and I decide to get out and shoot, we end up driving around for a while until we figure out what we are in the mood to shoot. Last night it seemed to click fast and I know I was very satisfied with the location (a unpopular area to see the Utica skyline)and shots I came home with. I’m sure D will post his shots from the night shortly.

Just to give you an idea of how cold it was, here is a picture of D's camera and tripod. Notice how D’s breath turned into ice crystal at the base of the camera:

Northern Getaway

Saturday night one of my friends outside of the shadowmen invited me up north to his camp. Our intent was to watch the Packers /Giants game, little did we know the rabbit ears would not pick up the channel the game was on. If you could see past how cold it was out side, it was a very beautiful night. Both of these shots were take just after midnight and just below 0°. Never the less, inside it was very cozy and we had a great night.

I could not resist capturing the beauty of the night.

Hmmm..

So, last week a few of The Shadowmen met up with a couple TV personalities. Details of the meeting with Megan Koskovich and Andrea Bullard are secret, but I am sure to let you know sooner or later:)

Late last night L and I grabbed a few of downtown Utica as a storm rolled in, giving some of us a small dusting.

I also captured this just before the fire that L and I posted recently. A bit of shadowmen magic on the scene and Gerber's Grill looked open for business..

Home cooking and a home that went unsaved.

I spent tonight cooking a meal using my one of my Mother's recipes. This is not a typical post for theshadowman.com but I feel there is nothing wrong with a little peek into my life now and then:

Last weekend L and I went on a bit of a scavenger hunt in Western NY for some buildings in distress. With no clue that we would hit the mother load of what is practically a ghost town. Here is one image of one of the buildings that were found:

More on the ghost town once we do a bit more research.

A Fire again tonight on Columbia St. AND do not forget about the BENEFIT FOR ELWOOD'S ON SUNDAY!!!!

Tonight this post was going to be specifically to remind people about the benefit for Elwood's SUNDAY Jan. 13, at The Electric Company, 700 Varick St from 1-8PM.

Some of the Shadowmen will be there as well, since we did have some fantastic times in Elwood's...

BUT, then there was another fire... at another apartment building on Columbia Street. We stopped over to capture more of our local fire department in action and document what may be another building, soon to be gone forever..

Please make sure to look below the new fire images for, two pictures I took in Elwood's a few days before the fire.

As the fire broke out of the front windows:

Plenty of smoke before the fire came out of the front windows:

Many people will be homeless after tonight..

Sadly the fire seemed to proceed through the whole structure. This is on the Western side:

On this day, I talked with Dan (the owner) about who we are, what we do and handed him a bunch of business cards. Dan, I am so sorry for your loss and want you to know that everyone I knew that went to Elwood's, spoke about the place in such a great way. It is sorely missed by many and I personally wanted you to know that it was exactly how you told me you wanted it to be, a home like atmosphere where you could sit back and relax. I miss it, as I know you do.

Life sucks, but your place of business made my Sundays start in such a good way...

Another loss in Utica

The guys and I have a very busy weekend going on. The good this is there should will be a lot of new things to check out in the next few days. However on a negative note and a bit of breaking news. Tonight around 10:30 a fire Broke out on the 400 block of Columbia street. Just blocks away from the former Elwood's coffee house that burnt down just weeks ago. It will be sad to see, what was a well kept building in Uitca, now will most likely be torn down due to another fire.

Here are some shots of Utica's fine fire fighters at work.

Thanks to everyone that has kept up on our updates. I do value all of our visitors and hope that 2008 is half as fun as the past year. We have made some amazing contacts and FRIENDS. You know who you are. If not, email me, I will tell you:)

A few new photographs, one of a beautiful Utica New York sunrise, the other a typical CNY new fallen snow winter scene...
